A week's worth of wedding!

Well, it all began with one gigantic sushi adventure to Minato which involved 5 people and a ton of sushi but no pictures were taken there. Note: All these pictures are from the respective cameras of Jason and Laura (his girlfriend) but the professional photographer's photographs will probably not arrive for a while. Paul, Micah's brother also took a plethora of amazing photos but I will have to wait for Micah to scan those...so for now, just to give you an idea, we go with amateur photography (some of which are still quite pretty)!

The following day, dinner was had at Hamachi House...

And less sushi was had, thus we are happy. It's true that too much a good thing can be a bad thing? Is that the saying?

Micah and Anna are happy too because they're getting married or rather, are already married but will be having their ceremony in a few days!

After many game filled evenings with bowling spattered about and some more dinners/large lunches, we finally make it to the wedding day. We start at Sir Sanford Flemming Park for some pictures!

So there's a story about what I was going to wear to the wedding because Micah would be wearing a kilt. One joke lead to another and we came up with 'Giant Giraffe Costume' where giant is defined as "causing difficulty with entering the chapel". Unfortunately, that idea was eventually shot down by Anna and so thanks to Caroline, I had a little giraffe riding around in my breast pocket. Everyone was wondering what his/her name was but Galdo was thrown at there because he was hiding in many of the pictures...(Maybe Care can clear that up).

A 'Wedding Event'

So what exactly do you call a party for a guy who is already married? I dunno...

We began by going to Mailman's house for a barbeque. Along the way, we stop by the Farmer's Market to buy some sausages and fresh greens. We were there for about 6-7 hours just sitting there talking/eating. At some point, a pool noodle fight broke out and someone had to go in the pool...

...and thus the party began.

There are a few other pictures, and I've decided to not put them on...

Anyway, while Micah clothes dried off in the dryer (drier?), he sat around in a bath robe and we played some cards. Eventually, the power of the the drying machine let us leave to go to the Old Triangle for some dinner at around 7. This was followed by us seeing about 1/4 of the fireworks show for Natal Day and finally boarding the Mar at 11pm for a boat cruise to end the evening where Micah hoists the sails and sets on our journey...

We actually didn't think to bring a camera for anything but Micah's brother in law had a camera phone.

Today, we went to brunch at Cousin's restaurant and then decided to go bowling which was scheduled for yesterday but the whole falling the pool and sitting around made us cancel it. A bunch of Micah's cousins came to bowling with us which was pretty fun. A lot of them were younger but I would've guessed there were mostly teens and a few youngin's but none really younger than 7 or 8. I actually competed against the young guy who was pretty good and managed to actually bowl my best game ever :/
Makes me wonder if my cousins are good bowlers....

So a certain someone (we'll call her Lien) was hating on Vietnamese food today. I expressed my love for my household/nationality food by saying that it was 'the best' (in the world? i think i just said the best). Then Lien jumps in and says no in that special way that makes me feel my opinion is wrong. So I know i was brought up in Canada and ate the foods here, hamburger...steak...potato, but I still like my own food the best (possibly cause I ate more of it when I grew up? maybe... since a lot of the food we eat is boring. But our cool stuff is awesome).

Just let me love my food and go ahead and love your meatballs in plum sauce or chicken in a too-strong teriyaki sauce. I could go on, but I've lost my momentum and have ceased to care about the subject at hand...

Wake up to a cup of Instant Karma

After having joked with some friends about the new coffee "Instant Karma", I finally had a good cup early in the morning.

Instead of carpooling with dad,
took the car and realized my bad.
Saw that gas prices had gone up,
it tastes like Instant Karma in a cup.

Now I had many reasons to justify taking the car to work instead of hopping on the bike with my dad but I'm certain that none of you are interested in hearing my excuses for the destruction of our environment. It won't happen again!

Oh, and the ball used for Chinlone is called a cane ball. The internet has failed in finding me some.

I also went shopping for business type wear, and got some pants, a suit and a jacket. Probably the easiest shopping I've ever done with my parents...

So I haven't been totally lucky enough to see all my cousins this visit because one of them is in Banff (And 4 are in Vancouver...but well, i don't have any stories about them). Yeah, little Rowan who is now two years old has all sorts of stories floating over from Banff that constantly amaze me. I met her when she was one and she could communicate through sign language.

So now, I hear stories such as when a friend was visiting their home and she had some vitamin bottles and saw Rowan eyeing them. She was worried about Rowan wanting to take them and swallow them and she said something about that. Rowan replied "I am just looking with my eyes; I am keeping my hands safe behind my back." Totally awesome. I'm also told she likes to eat sushi! Her favourite is shrimp along with calamari and smoked salmon. I love that her taste is rad and we can go eat a lot of sushi when I see her next. Sigh, my family is lucky as they get to hang with her in Cuba in December while I work in Japan.

Speaking of which, I now wonder why we didn't go to sushi in toronto... ...oh well.

I also learned that Hannah, one of the cousins i visited, scored a winning goal in some soccer tournament to break a 1-1 tie! It was in the news. Due to my soccer fever in the past month, this is also awesome to me. She apparently beat like four players and put it past the keeper. Exciting! I'd put Hannah on my Kingston fantasy soccer league team. Oh yeah, she's 10 years old but she's about the size of a six or eight year old. I swear Hannah hasn't grown in the past 4 years...

Then on to my older cousin, Nha, who took a half of the pictures in my gallery of Ontario visit pictures. She just finished high school and is going to university. I wasn't really surprised when Tiffany (the one living in my house) or her brother went because they're just one or two years younger than me but Nha is young!...Well, she was. Oh how they grow up so fast. Her brother just finished junior high, which means he goes into high school at grade 9 (oh how Ontario is so different). Here's a picture of them. Nha is on the right, Ti is her brother in the center. That's Mai Ly on the left, daughter of my rich uncle. Luckily, she is young (fourteen!), though I thought she was older than she was...

Speaking of kids growing older, Sam (Hannah's older sister, by a whopping two years) has grown bangs. Big news! ...Well, not really. But Gillian seemed to think it was a big deal. And so did Nha. They're in this picture, Sam being the one with her eyes closed. Hannah and Andrew are twins...funny huh? Maybe not.

I guess I meant to just put up the Rowan stories (and i excluded a few that involved peeing and pooing) but I'm proud of all of their accomplishments! They're always amazing me. Of course, it's awkward now because some of them may be reading this.

Also, for those of you who have noticed that I call some of them by their Vietnamese names and others by their English names, well, that's just cause it's what I do. Mostly the older kids get their vietnamese names. The middle ones get a mixture of both, while the younger ones get English names. There is one exception and that's Xuan, who I call Xuan and not Joanna (i think that's her english name. Well, as you can see, it could be that I just don't know it). Also, Rowan doesn't have a Vietnamese name (that I know of).

And well, that's it.

Well, I've returned from a summery visit to Ontario to see my family.

I should start figuring out how to use the tags and picture stuff on this journal thing for when we start our journey to Japan journal.

Other than causing one of my cousins to cry a bunch of times in a few days and witnessing a display of public urination on the side of a building in Montreal, it was a regular family visiting time...

Germany and other things!

I was orignally only supposed to work for two months of the summer but my supervisor thinks this project is going somewhere good so I've stayed on for another month. I would rather figure out if this can be done rather than take a month off anyway....

so I'm currently in 'wait till next week for someone to finish something for me before I can do anything' mode and I will take full advantage by watching Germany play Argentina today at noon. I've been gripped by World cup fever and the only cure is more World Cup. I've been able to watch atleast a game and a half on weekdays when I work and every game on the weekends but now that it's down to elimination stages, the space between matches is unbearably long. Perhaps the fact that I'm taking part in this Fantasy team league is part of the reason for my enthusiasm. It's like a game, where I get points and numbers go up. It's basically my new World of Warcraft....

Yes, I do believe I'll just stop paying my subscription to WoW unless I find good reason to do so. Besides, I have so many other games to play...

Gillian and I took advantage of a super sale at Strange Adventures and bought ourselves (well, I bought it) a board game called Empire Builder. It's a game where you have a train and you can deliver goods to various cities in the US and the bottom of Canada and make money. Most importantly, you draw on the game board with crayon to mark your railways.
Thanks to Anna for mentioning the sale and to Anna and Micah for introducing us to the European version 'Eurorails'.
Currently I reign as regional champion having won both games I've played of either game.

So Micah and Anna are having their fake wedding ceremony soon at which I may or may not be required to give some sort of speech. As of last week, I found out I won't be wearing a giant giraffe costume when I do so. Aside from that disappointing bit of news, I wonder if anyone has any interesting stories or tidbits about Micah I could use for the speech. I think it's a speech from me to the bride about the groom and I should be best qualified since i've known Micah for a long time, and I've told Anna pretty much all the bad stuff I know. So I ask if anyone else knows anything else?
Please post quietly as I wouldn't want Micah or Anna to overhear any of it.

My mom got her retirement gift yesterday which was a heavy 42' plasma TV. I do believe I deserve some usage time (Especially for World Cup Finals! ) for helping my dad carry it from the car to the living room and shuffling it around as we figured out where to put it. Now I just need one of those new HD gaming consoles. Where's the Wii?

	Before the awards ceremony We showed up early thinking that we'd need parking, so we took the opportunity to get some pictures. Anne-marie, one of the secretaries,is busy preparing for the reception afterwards so we snap a few pictures and we help her setup.
	I look like Micah from last year... Well, I guess I'm in mid-embarrassed-laughter after Dr. Senba tells some story about how I was right and he was wrong, putting the score of correctness at Me: 1 Him: A number partially fused with infinity.
	Cake My mom loves pictures of cakes. I love receptions with free food.

	Christopher Tyler How coincidental it was that Mr. Tyler, a graduated M.Sc. student, would be around for about a week, working here at Dal. Here we share in the victory of another undergraduate become graduate.
	My buddy Tommy T I thought I should get a picture of myself with my curling sometimes nemesis and sometimes teammate, Dalhousie President Tom Traves. So I did, and I figured that a 'fun' photograph of us pretending to fight wouldn't be very appropriate at a convocation. I also meant to get one with my pal, Keith Taylor the Dean of Science but I couldn't find him after the ceremony. I think I have one of him on stage.
	The next 3 are the same-ish A group of us after convocation joined by Micah, Dr. Tindall and Sara.
	The 2nd one I've never used this gallery posting thing before.

Well, it was a long day which seemed too hectic to talk to everyone who you wanted to talk to at once. Before the ceremony, in the lineup, I got paired up with the closest 'C' last name person who was in Microbiology. During the ceremony, whenever a Micro graduate crossed the stage, we would cheer and hoot, because i was mostly bored. She offered to help cheer when the physicists went, and I think it caught them by surprise. The chancellor did not make use of his mace and it was unclear on the kneeling as some people did, and some people didn't. Tom congratulated me on stage when I walked by and later asked about Japan because he was eavesdropping on my short conversation with the chancellor!

We also had an honorary Ph.D. to be given out to a Dr. Alan Grant (not the one from Jurassic park) who was a geophysicist and made a very nice speech.

The valedictorian address was also good, given by some guy from chemistry. It was slightly moving but not too cheesy. Afterwards, I had to wait for a while to get my picture taken but managed to return my robe before the placed closed...

The day was a nice 8.5/10 overall which I'd say is a great score and I'd recommend going if you can, though I wouldn't go again...

Pros: Receptions after both ceremonies, provides some sort of closure to your undergraduate degree, your robe looks sort of neat, people say nice things about you to your parents and presents at the awards ceremony.
Cons: Convocation is long and possibly boring, your robes are hot and difficult to sit in, no mace action!

I never feel like I have anything to talk about to people who don't play WoW. Well, I guess it's not the only thing I do but it's the only thing I feel like talking about. I can try to do otherwise since I'm bored at work...

Let's see...On monday night I went to Ryan Duffy's Speakeasy which is what I would call a 'hole', unless it is in the process of becoming not so 'hole'-like. I went because someone saw an ad for improv comedy for $2 at 9pm. Turned out it was two guys who just improvise for 45 minutes straight with no break. It's not like "Who's line is it anyway?" but just more like they act and make up different scenes. It was entertaining and they'll be there every monday night, according to them. Oh, they're called Picnicface in case anyone knows of them. Why does it sound familiar to me?

On the weekend, my mom's aunt came down along with her daughter and her daughter's son. This little chubby vietnamese boy who was 6 could speak vietnamese many times better than I. It was also difficult to find him a suitable video game when he asked, especially when he said he wanted an easy 'game where you shoot guns' (Translated from vietnamese since I can't write in vietnamese) since I don't have easy games where you shoot guns. I soon learned the gaming ability of this child was not as great as he seemed to think. He tells me that Mario Kart was "too easy" and said it in the way that vietnamese people say "so easy", which makes them sound like they could accomplish the given task with great ease while sound asleep, in a bag, underwater. I refrained from making a smug comment when he ended up not doing very well at all and saying that it wasn't fair, after all he was only 6 (though I had no idea at the time since my mom told me a 12 year old was coming). I also didn't realize I was related to him at the time and felt no need to tease him like my other cousins. Though I don't think I tease my cousins until they're old enough to understand they've been insulted, but in a caring way.

I thought I should post something now that my schooling is done with, but I think I'm just going to put in the code for this 60-day gamecard. I had stopped playing WoW for 2 months or so, nearing finals and all through finals. Of course, throughout that time, I just played another time-consuming non multiplayer RPG! All that hype I had for Oblivion was well hyped because it was such a great game. It was so beautiful even on mediumish settings running on my Radeon 9600... Play Oblivion if you can and listen to the voice acting talent of Sean Bean and Patrick Stewart
.
Oh well. I guess heading back to WoW will cause me to forget to post again!

I was sick during the real photojournal day, so I've only gotten around to it now... I think I took more than 12 photos, and I lost track of time near the end of the day. Still, no reason to follow those rules anyway.

8:10-8:15AM - I head into school with my dad. He decides to take the motorcycle despite it still being a little (which means too cold on a motorcycle) cold. Still, it makes for a good photo opportunity.

9:15-9:20AM - Now my first class of the day. It's a rainbow of a graph which means something. I don't know. It's a computational methods in physics class. That graph was made with a computer. ooo.

10:15AM - The hour where everyone else has condensed matter which I decided to not take. I work on my honours project.

11:20AM - Time to go get coffee with Jock and Catherine. I never go to get coffee with them because I don't drink coffee. However, it makes for good photo opportunity. This is actually after getting coffee and we're walking back.

11:20AM - As you can see, it's 11:20AM ...I thought i was late, so I took a picture of the clock.

12:15PM - Time for some cards and a little lunch. A bit of a break before I head on over to...

1:15PM - the study room. To do some more work on my project.

2:15PM - My supervisor's office. I figured he didn't want me to take a picture of him, so I went for a picture of the wall. We talked about my project for a 15 minutes and then talked about Japan, curling and music (And Gary Ewer).

3:15PM - Back to the study room to keep on working...

4:15PM - So if you haven't figured it out yet, I've spent more time in this room for the past 3 years than anywhere else in the world. This is a shot of what it looks like to look out the door from the inside.

5:15PM - Well, it's friday, and so we leave at 5 to go eat. Usually we'd eat and just come back, but not on a friday night. Even aspiring physicists try to have fun now and then.

6:15PM - Eating dinner at the Pogue Fado.

7:15PM - Now we pay for the service provided.

8:15 +/- 30 minutes PM - Look at this fun. We're out playing pool. I tried to take this photo by myself...

8:15 +/- 30 minutes PM - But this one looks better, taken by Catherine.

9:45PM? - Time to go home...I'm tired. The pool table is dark.

FJHS Science Fair

I took part in judging of a science fair at Fairview junior high this morning...

Great projects such as "Do plants grow better in sugar than dirt?" ...Or uh..."Fingerprints".
I felt great confliction in marking some of the projects that didn't involve any kind of discovery or use of the scientific method and were just projects that involved them looking up information on the internet since we had sheets from the national science fair ...council. These sheets had marking schemes based on kids using this, so ...I had to mark a lot of kids down. Even for some who had decent projects. Oh well.

Anyway...It felt funny going back into the school, hearing the buzzer bell thing, and morning announcements (the principal seems like a tough one).

And we've been Screech-ed in. ...Though I'll admit, I didn't kiss the cod cause i was taking videos/pictures of some other people doing it. They told me it stank, so probably for the best that I didn't. So I'm not an inducted newfie, though I guess I'm half-newfie since I took part in half of the ritual (which was done by some guy dressed up in a fisherman's outfit...and carrying a paddle).

Yes! You can't go wrong with funny videos from Weird Al. I loved Weird Al back in grade 4, especially the videos which I thought were hilarious.

Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue
This one was on Leno and I've seen another video from these guys, and they just didn't seem to have the energy they had in that other video. They were kinda dull and the violin guy just wasn't hitting the notes right. Just too precise of an instrument for a jumpy type band. Enh.

Well, though I'm big into Rage now, I must say that I've listened to "Testify" more than enough for my liking so yeah, don't like the song, but...seeing Rage perform live is pretty awesome. They are intensely awesome. I notice another Rage song on this CD, so we'll see what that one is. This coincidentally breaks the 'more than one of the same band' rule...this is a first!

Boxcar Racer - There Is
Aw, nice song. Good old Tom and Travis. Not much more needs be said. Good performance.

Brand New - Jude Law and the Semester Abroad
Yes! Brand New! I've never actually seen this music video. Though admittedly, I'd have wanted a live song ...this is still cool. And what a rockin song too. Awesome. On another note, seems this band is full of guys that look like jocks, and one -insane- bassist.

Finch - What it is to Burn
Well, I don't listen to Finch, but this song wasn't bad...Maybe after a few more listens? I'm noticing this is trying to entice me into other bands of screamo.

Green Day - The Making of Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Heh...Well, I see this one takes up a lot of space cause it shows the crazy antics of Sam Bayer and his directing of this Green Day video. Entertaining...and a bit of a twist in the CD

My Chemical Romance - Helena
Well, I can't say that I've gotten into MCR after listening to some of their CD, but I atleast like the song Helena...and they're pretty good live.

Rage Against The Machine - Bulls on Parade
Yes! Bulls on Parade! What an awesome solo by Tom Morello. One of my Rage favourites.

Senses Fail - Rum is for Drinking, not Burning
Well, ...I don't listen to these guys either. But man...He does a really funny dance halfway through the video...so it's well worth it. What a dork.

System Of A Down - B.Y.O.B
This probably isn't the image that they're shooting for, but when I watch them or listen to them, I generally laugh...In amazement. The guy can do some amazing things with his voice that are mystify and falls into my category of unique singers that I like. I should go and get that new CD...

Taking Back Sunday - You're so Last Summer (Acoustic)
Enh, I dunno this song either, but it was the acoustic version, they even had a standup bass for the bassist. Pretty cool...and not a bad song I guess. Needs more listens I'm sure.

Underoath - Reinventing Your Exit
So this is the actual music video, and man, it is kinda weird. Still, if you didn't know anyway, I love these guys so it was a good wicked song to have on the CD. The keyboard guy is funny when he's not doing anything because he'll flail his arms randomly...I'd love to see these guys live.

Weezer - In The Garage
This song looks like it was played in somebody's basement or something. This is probably one of my favourites from the Blue album...so right on. All through the performance, I was trying to tell who the bassist was because of my intensive knowledge of the band but they kept blocking him with either Rivers or a balloon depending on the shot that the camera had. In the end, I saw and I think it was Mikey. Huh.

The Starting Line - Best Of Me
Well, slight bit of work to get this one working but I got it working...and by slight, I mean copying the file onto my computer and renaming it. Good song, it's rockin'. The singer looks like the singer from Yellowcard: Short, skinny, blondish hair...same voice. Heh.

Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated
Heh, I've seen this video tons of times already. It's the one where they play on Letterman. This is the one that actaully made me go 'huh, these guys are pretty good...' and thus here I am listening to them. And Letterman's piano dude plays along with them...Paul? I'll admit, I don't watch Letterman.

Well, this CD totally surprised me with the 'video' concept but when I heard it, I thought I'd be getting live shows of Brand New and Underoath. Instead, I get music videos (which I haven't seen, so it's all good) of them but in exchange, i get -two- live videos of Rage Against the Machine, which is awesome. Lots of familiar bands to see as well too which is great...what more can I ask for?

I even got the hilarity of Weird Al and Sam Bayer...If I was giving ratings, I'd give this CD a good rating. In any case, I enjoy it.

Well, exams are over and I get an early Christmas present.

It's about a year late, but that's the kind of gamer I am, I guess. That's right, it's a game...I posted about it long before it was released. Yeah, it's Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Böse. Satisfying my urge for Japanese storylines and characters...
